Observation 1

The other day I found this growing on a tree in front of my house. I've been searching and searching and cannot seem to find what it is, but i managed to find things about tree fungus in general. Some fungi are good for the trees they grow on, as well as the tree being good for the fungi. The superstitious "Fairy Rings" are actually a species of fungus creating an association with the roots of the tree, making a ring around the tree. The folk tale is that mushrooms and fungi grew in the path of fairies dancing around trees in the night, which is why they would pop up so fast. Apparently in Holland, fairy rings were considered where the Devil would rest his milk churn. The fastest growing fungus is called the stinkhorn fungus, which grows at about 0.2 inches per minute. you can even hear a crackling of the tissue of the fungus while it comes up out of the earth. When they decay, they become very pungent, apparently like decomposing flesh. They are considered a delicacy in China, regardless of the smell. Still trying to figure out the name of this orange fungus.
