Zach & Kaycee's Project Proposal

This is a Kaycee Conaway and Zachary Hutchinson Project

Our Topic
Animal Birthdays - Celebrating the animals individuality

Integration
We will be integrating methods of technology and tactile information (ie a map) to show our celebrations with the animals.

Goal
To promote personal connections with the animals and celebrate their individuality in order to promote conservation efforts in the future.

Media Format
We will have a map of the Zoo containing QR codes that can be scanned with smart phones. When the codes are scanned they will send you to a video (a la YouTube) of us celebrating and informing you of the personal birthdays of and exciting facts about certain animals.

Access
We will hand out maps near entrances of the zoo.

  1. It doesn't really seem you have updated your proposal at all since our class meeting? Right now what you have posted is still it is far too vague. How will your celebration act as a clear benefit to the animal (and people's awareness of it)?

How will you avoid objectifying / anthropomorphizing the animal further in the process since a birthday party is a human contrivance. Will this be better than having a stuffed animal that a child could also form a bond with? How? These are all things brought up last week that you still need to address - please do so in writing as an update to the blog ASAP.

  2. I think you also need to consider if there is any precedent for this kind of party. I am sure there is. What other zoos do it? How are they assessed? This is background research you need to do and need to mention.

  3. Hi guys, Stephanie here. As you know I really like your topic, but think maybe you should look at the idea of a birthday party as more of a conceptual idea, rather than an actual party. If that makes sense?? LPZ might shut down the party and I wouldn't want your project to suffer... so being more subtle may strengthen your idea. I don't have any suggestions for this, but do like the idea of giving a human-animal celebrated day to animals. I mean we celebrate the birthdays of babies and children and they share the same intelligence as many animals. Something is to be said for that...
