Observation KC

I’m really interested in frogs in and around densely populated human environments. Any sort of amphibian or fish, really, that is native and live in ponds/lakes/puddles. Everyone knows that pollution is bad for the environment, and that it messes with the air and water quality. But we live in a world where that doesn’t really affect us day-to-day. It is a really big wake up call when I see pictures of frogs that were born with 5 legs. It is a physical manifestation of the harm humans are doing to the environment. Since frogs have extremely sensitive skin, chemicals can easily seep into their bodies and affect their eggs/sperm. This leads to birth defects such as extra limbs or eyes, or even fusing of body parts and mouth related issues. Other causes may include a flatworm that sometimes lives in the same bodies of water as frogs and toads. It gets inside developing frogs and affects limb development. Ultraviolet light is another cause of disfigurement.
